What to know about lung cancer?

Signs or symptoms don't develop until lung cancer reaches an advance stage (spread to other parts of the body), this is when it's very difficult to cure

Who should be screened?

50 to 80
Smoked cigarettes in last 15 years
Have a 20 pack year smoking history : 1 pack of cigarettes in the last 15 years, 2 packs of cigarettes per day for 10 years or more, 1/2 pack per day for 40 years or more

How often to screen?

Once a year, every year, until you're no longer considered to be at high risk of developing lung cancer

Who decides to screen?

You and your doctor have a discussion, discuss your smoking history, the pros and cons for low-dose CT scans, if you are eligible for the screening, and any other concerns/questions to be answered.

What type of screening?

Low-dose CT scans takes pictures of the lungs and a small amount of radiation. Scan identifies normal lung tissue, small round growth, and/or other conditions that can affect the lungs.
